What Cruise Line is Best for Me??

Planning a cruise can feel like a challenge, especially with so many options out there. It’s easy to get lost in the sea of choices, wondering which cruise line is going to offer the experience you’re really after. That’s where we come in. We’ve been on these ships, sailed these seas, and helped countless clients find their perfect match. And one thing we’ve learned? The key to choosing the right cruise is understanding your travel persona.

Whether you’re all about family fun, exploring new cultures, or indulging in gourmet dining, there’s a cruise out there that’s just right for you. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular cruise lines and see which might be the best fit based on your interests. And don’t worry, we won’t spoil all the details—you’ll want to keep an eye out for our upcoming Cruise Line Guide, where we break it all down.

Carnival Cruise Line

Fun for Families, But Temper Your Expectations

If you’re traveling with kids and want to do all the things, Carnival is your go-to. Family Fun Seekers will find plenty to keep everyone entertained, from water slides to kid-friendly shows. Carnival is also a favorite for those Balling on a Budget—you can get a lot of bang for your buck here. Those with larger families trying to convince a lot different people to get on a sailing will find selling carnival to those looking for cheap or value is a lot easier - we have extended family that will only sail Carnival. With that being said, the Fun ships can be a double edged sword as the fun can shift from family fun to college party that may not be ideal for those looking to rest or navigating with children.

Royal Caribbean

A Little Bit of Everything**Limitations Apply, Not Always As Advertised

Royal Caribbean is perfect for those who want adventure and to dive into new cultures and experience a little bit of everything. Coco Cay is our favorite private island, their itineraries are packed with exciting destinations, and the ships themselves are floating cities of adventure. With all of the slides, family fun seekers will also find plenty to love here, but be warned—sometimes things aren’t open when you want them to be, which can be a bit of a letdown. They may advertise the abyss slide and zipline at sea or the water slides, or rock climbing, but limited hours means they might not be open when you want to go and those limit hours also means when they are open - the lines get long. If you think you can dodge the lines by going on a port day or during off hours, with limited hours it simply isn’t always possible. While we still sail Royal, we almost always have a significant issue on every sailing and so far they have done a good job at solving the issue to keep us coming back but as their prices continue to rise closer to Disney and less Carnival that may change.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Freedom and Flexibility, But Inconsistency Is a Trade-Off

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is a great choice for those who value flexibility and variety in their vacation. With their “Freestyle Cruising” concept, you can dine whenever and wherever you like, making it a perfect option for Foodies who enjoy exploring different culinary experiences. Whether you're grabbing a casual bite or indulging in a gourmet meal, NCL’s dining options offer something for every palate. The Free at Sea package adds great value, even if you’re not into alcohol, as it includes non-alcoholic mocktails and covers most drinks. However, the Free at Sea PLUS package might not be worth it unless you’re keen on premium alcohol or specialty dining—despite perks like unlimited Wi-Fi and access to Starbucks.

That said, NCL does have some downsides. Entertainment options can be limited, and not all shows receive rave reviews, which can make the experience feel repetitive. We receive mixed feedback from clients—some have an excellent time, while others find it lacking. If you’re considering sailing with NCL, be sure to weigh the trade-offs to see if they align with your preferences.

Disney Cruise Line

Disney Magic: Enchanting, Predictable, and Pricey.

Disney Cruise Line is a no-brainer for Family Fun Seekers. Comparing Disney to other cruise lines is like comparing Apple to Samsung—while other lines might boast impressive features, Disney offers an ease of use and a consistently enjoyable experience that people love. The level of service and that special Disney magic truly set it apart, making it one of our top choices.

Though Disney isn’t always the cheapest, rising prices on other cruise lines mean it’s not necessarily the most expensive option either. The food and restaurants are solid, but the menu is repetitive and geared towards basic, kid-friendly options, which means a lack of culinary adventure. Unlike other lines that have high highs and low lows, Disney does a great job of eliminating those low points, ensuring a consistently great vacation.

And it’s not just for kids—Disney offers plenty for adults too, with top-notch spas and adults-only areas that provide a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. In fact, we’ve seen a surprising number of adults cruising with Disney specifically for these experiences. While Disney is our favorite for family vacations, if you’re looking for an adults-only getaway, we have another line we prefer...

Virgin Voyages

Fab & Fit: May Not Float Traditional Cruisers Boat

Virgin Voyages is the rising star in the cruise world and our top choice when traveling as a couple. It’s perfect for Self-Care Queens seeking a truly relaxing, adults-only escape. The adults-only ship is a vibe—imagine the serenity of the adults-only areas on other lines, but never having to leave. With a wellness-focused approach and a chic, modern vibe, Virgin is ideal for those looking to recharge. Foodies will appreciate the unique dining experiences that go beyond typical cruise fare—though the food quality has slightly dipped from a few years ago, it’s still among the best at sea, with The Dock House being a hidden gem.

Virgin offers a different experience compared to traditional cruises, which can be a pro or a con depending on your preferences. While we love the entertainment, some find it lacking, and the small pool can be a downside for others. Another thing we love is the non-smoking casino, with a private smoking room available for smokers. Virgin does a great job making this space accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Virgin may not follow the traditional cruise formula, but it excels in offering indulgent experiences—whether it’s a gourmet meal, private karaoke, a champagne lounge, or a morning yoga session overlooking the ocean.
